Should we as a nation still send aid to India when they are spending so much on space travel?
Surely they should be helping their own impoverish families.

Pjran It has been long known that India is a very rich country, therefore we shouldn't be sending any money and they should be taking care of their own less fortunate people.
Pjran How long do our government have to keep paying for that? Many countries invade other countries and have done over the centuries but we seem to be the only ones who keep paying for it until the end of time.
tumblespots India was never invaded there was never a war or battle but India was colonised by Great Britian.
Any charity India receives from Great Britian is most definently not from the kindness from the heart of the government but most likely a high level money laundering scheme serving to benefit the British government in the end masquerading as charity.

Indians were tortured and killed in their own country if they dared speak up against the British.
If someone came into your house and made you a slave in it would be devastating.
Defending such behaviour is akin to being complicit in the sadistic torture,heartbreak and bloodshed.

Let's say Europeans never colonized The Americas continent, how would those countries be today? We'll never know.

Moreover, China is trying to colonize Africa and a lot of it [land] is unused/undeveloped so if they give them [owners/govt] money they'll be allowed to do what they want. That's one way to look positively at colonization.

jms19 I don't think it gets reported enough. Did you know that it is reported that the UK only paid off their debt to America for their help in WW2 in December 2006.....
tumblespots what I meant is, what we pay in aid gets reported a lot more than what other countries pay in aid. Also we did have the largest empire in history so maybe we pay more cause of that.

jam45 As with many countries there are pockets of both very rich and very poor people, they even used to teach about it when my son was in school.
But who we give aid to has sadly always been a political decisions often used as part of various deals rather than any desire to genuinely provide assistance to those who need it. Its the same with most if not all countries sadly.
What the heck do humans need to go to space for? You got Earth, that's more than enough.
Leave the outer planets for its native beings (believing we're the only ones alive is naive).

Absolutely not full stop. We have enough people in need in our own country to look after including ex service men who truly deserve being taken care of. Says it all about India they think England is a walk over and they are right !! . Sadly I feel we can no longer use the GREAT in Britain

We should not be sending aid to India unless of course we have to due to some contract. India may be a rich country in theory but its grossly overpopulated so that means less resources for each person and sadly we are getting that way too. I think India's population density is about 440 people per square kilometre but the UK is something like 280 per square kilometre but of course that includes Scotland which is a large area not populated. Taking England on its own we are probably similar to India in density which is a ridiculous situation. England is predicted to lose a lot of area with rising sea levels just like Ireland but not as bad as countries like the Netherlands. We need to get our sh*t together and think about our long term finances and the people of this country. We need to look at our finances and economy as a priority today but our government just seems to be sleepwalking and utterly incompetent.

As this topic has included the subject of colonialism, just as many topics before have condemned, rightly, the sins of the past, though they should not be visited upon the heads of modern man, this quote seems appropriate.
Be wary of judging the past by modern morals lest your own enlightened virtues one day fall from fashion.

I must admit I had a similar thought. How can a government justify the cost of a space programme when a large % of their population are living in poverty.

Nope not at all sorry are own are struggling why on earth do we keep giving out to other countries when we can't help are own issues with homeless here
No, we shouldn't. It is very sad that India has chosen space over helping their own people but its not our job to support everyone else.
