Voucher System

In the News

How do you feel about the possible voucher system coming in for pip claimants? Are you keeping up to date with what is happening with the proposal?

I haven’t seen this. Do you mean people who claim pip to get vouchers instead of cash. If so I’m all behind that. My brother gets this benefit and gives it the off licence.

Sounds ridiculous to me. How on earth are vouchers going to be useful. The Government don’t know where people like to buy their shopping etc.

Pjran They're intentionally made to be restrictive so those who rely on it use it on selected retailers and items, and nothing else.

The UBI/CBDC would be more or less the same as this, vouchers.

Everyone's (not so) fave prime minister even talked about it:

I’ve just read the consultation, which ended on July 22, was launched by the former Tory government which means that the current Labour government may scrap the proposed changes entirely.

Pjran And so they should.

Vouchers would just stigmatize people, it's a disgusting idea

Its a disgusting idea. I get made to feel guilty enough as it is. I also buy a lot of fruit and veg at a local street market - so it would be a double whammy - it tells everyone that we are on benefits and will cost us more money just to survive as it would restrict where we could buy our food from.

I personally don’t think it’s a great idea and not really feasible. These people use this money for taxis to and from drs, to buy equipment to help with pain ie tens machines, others use it to help with healthier lifestyle to aid with their illnesses etc. How could vouchers work for these. It’s the likes of alcoholics and drug users that were making government consider these vouchers to stop them using it to buy more alcohol, more drugs etc. Yes I recognise that these people are ill from addiction but it’s the genuine ill through no fault of their own need extra help and support

I do not like the idea at all, as numerous disability charities have stated, people's needs fluctuate so vouchers would make things difficult for them. I have multiple chronic illnesses and these have constantly changed which means my priorities with what I need constantly changes. I also don't like the idea of everyone knowing I get help as I already feel like a failure. I have 3 degrees and struggle to work due to illness. Unfortunately all of us getting help tend to all get judged the same despite benefits being different and at different levels etc

DanielleMcK1992 you really shouldn’t feel a failure, life can be so unfair sometimes. Others have to learn not to judge disabled people.

Yeah that's not a great idea. Vouchers aren't going to help people really are they? A voucher I would imagine is also limited to something which again isn't helpful or great

That sounds like the CBDC they were trying to implement, but it didn't work out as they knew people would hate it.

I guess they're going to try it again with a different crowd.

I thought the whole point of pip was to help in some instances with extra costs like taxis to and from hospital/doctor's appointments ect... How would a voucher work on that basis, ridiculous idea

From what I've just read, labour has scrapped the idea, time for debate ect... Has run out
