Water Bosses Will Soon Face Criminal Charges

In the News

New laws will soon be introduced to have water bosses facing criminal charges for illegal sewage dumping, the new Environmental Secretary said. How far should these new laws prosecute them do you think? Is it an avoidable action or is the Environment Secretary on the right path? www.itv.com/news/2024-07-28/water-bosses-will-face-criminal-charges-over-sewage-dumping

It’s weird that they have had to make new laws when surely there should have been a law in place from the get go. How come people who are fly tipping get caught but these guys are actually causing way more damage and only now will they be facing criminal charges

I doubt anyone will be prosecuted E , it is all hot air to appease the angry customers

They are more likely to get a pay rise than a fine or jail

So long as they stop pouring sewage into the rivers and sea I will be happy. I don't think it is done only in emergency situations these days more as an easy option for the water companies.

telmel The taxpayers will be paying the fines and not the shareholders. This will be a complete waste of everyone's time.

jam45 Exactly J, that's why they keep dumping the sewerage , all they need to do is increase the water bills to get their money back from any fines , they save millions in costs by dumping the sewerage raw

It keeps the shareholders happy too, lets hope they stay out of the water and enjoy their premiums 🙄

telmel If this happens and it becomes public knowledge (obviously) it will do those who put the law in place extremely unpopular. It would be like stabbing themselves in the back.

They are just telling us what we want to hear, in reality nothing will happen to them, why aren't these laws in place already

About time. It's crazy we are told not to waste water. Look after the environment yet the worse offenders are the fat cat business owners

Jerseydrew well this is exactly the problem, we are told to either: use less, pay more or go without, to protect the environment but that won’t make a blind bit of difference because the companies making billions seem to have a free reign to do whatever they want in the name of profit.

Let’s hope, but doubt it. Our bills are apparently increasing! Take it from all the profits over the years! Just had a lodger who infuriated me with the amount of water she used.. 2 hr showers!! And who brushes their teeth with hot water?? 😡

It would also be prudent to stop paying shareholders anything and recover any dividends previously paid erroneously!

tumblespots That would be awesome, I totally agree with you on that. It really was a con from the off when it went into private ownership.

Even if prosecuted and found guilty they will only get a slap on the wrist and fined. The fine won't even come out of their own pockets but passed on to the consumer.

It outrageous! They just con the people time and time again. I can't understand why they are allowed to get away with it. I am so looking forward to retiring abroad, hoping to do so by approximately 2030 but the sooner the better.
