Whats the Best Hoover?
Ask a Question
Looking for a bargain on a Hoover, what's the best kind and is there any offers about?
I prefer Dyson vacuums although the trend is Shark. Ask your friends to bring their hoovers with them to your house to test drive them.
SaveMeSunday I agree I wouldn't give up my Henry for nothing else it's the best hoover I've had but I will admit it's not great on my rug
I don’t want to sound picky but a Hoover is a brand what you are actually looking for is a vacuum cleaner. Back to your question, I prefer Dyson, ok you pay more but I personally think they are worth it. I have had cheaper ones in the past and they don’t last.
I've had a few different ones in the past. In our first flat we had a Dyson. I found it heavy, the cord always got in the way, the cord wasn't long enough either and the suction on it wasn't great.
We now have a shark and it is brilliant. I can easily move it about the house, top part can come off for easily doing the stairs. We have a dog and it picks up her hairs no problem.
Gtech is fab too, also had one of those. Again easy to move about and great suction.
I've used a Henry before too, good suction but hurts your back as having to bend forward all the time.
Buy what you can afford, but I've always found the cheap ones don't last.
I tend to use a vacuum quite roughly over many surfaces, cleaning up after DIY and they get a rough life. Others might have deep carpets and be more careful how they are used and because of the carpets need an upright with a powered head. Also budget is a huge factor so if you are looking for a cheap sub £100 vacuum most of the big brands you can't get unless refurbished or secondhand.
I personally hate bagged cleaners I just don't see the point of paying for bags at all and some of the models like Miele are super expensive to get parts and repair which to me makes them uneconomic to repair and Miele quality has declined for sure. I think the vacuums are basically made in China and some are fully assembled there and others are assembled in Europe from parts from China. Even the plastic is not as good as it used to be. Also the suction of bagged cleaners reduces as the bag fills and unlike a bagless you can't just empty at any point to restore suction because it would cost you in extra bags.
Lastly some of the older models were much better as much higher wattage motors. The EU reduced the wattage allowed for vacuums and it did have an effect. While it caused manufacturers to create more efficient motors I don't think they achieved the same performance as earlier vacuums. I think the full power older Henrys (1300W I think) are better than the newer 600W models. I personally don't see the advantage of lower power motors if it takes longer to vacuum so the vacuum is on for much longer. Also the failure rate of these smaller motors seems higher and therefore there is more waste and more failed products going to landfill which is actually much worse for the environment.
Nowadays the budget Chinese vacuum cleaners aren't as good because in the old days they would work with sheer brute force and high wattage motors but now their less efficient less powerful motors don't really cut it the same.
I have bought and used several brands but It really depends on what you are after. I like my Miele. It Is powerful and Its a cylinder cleaner too. All the ext pipes and foot has click and connect so making It easier to attach, etc. Best cleaner I bought. Same comparison to a Sebo too. It depends on your budget and taste.
I’ve been told that sharks are very good and light but dysons are generally more sturdy. I don’t think the suction power of dyson can be beat though
I was amazed with the suction of Dyson cordless vacuums but then at the price they sell them it should be good.
I'd recommend sharks hoovers, we brought one last year and I wouldn't buy any other brand now.
My sister owns a Dyson and a shark vacuum. She says the shark is far better than the Dyson.
I've got my little Henry and he's still going strong doing a good job, best hoover I've had by far. At first a little expensive but worth the money for a lasting good quality product
We've had a Henry for years which I use for a through clean but day to day we have a russel hobbs cordless hoover.
My son has a shark tho & it is fantastic. I think it's better than Henry. We had a Dyson previously & think they are overated
I’ve got a Henry too, I’ve had him since 2010 and he’s still going strong. I had a proper Hoover make one before that and it just wasn’t man enough for the job. I wouldn’t swap my Henry and for £100 I consider him a bargain. On a recent holiday in Spain they were using them in the hotel and majority of tradesman also use them, they are a very simple design which seems to work very well
