What's the strangest thing you have come across while driving?
Ask a Question
I think the strangest thing i have spotted in the road is a runaway horse , i just avoided hitting it on a bend early one morning
Then i came across this story , although from last year, the footage has only just been shown
Normally it is just seagulls you find in Rhyl scavenging for scraps of food , not a giant sized fibre glass hippo as police came across
Someone had stolen it from the childrens park across the way and plonked it in the middle of the road where an individual decided to mount it
Maybe they were out celebrating their birthday and a friend shouted ''Happy Birthday, Hip Hip Hooray'' and he thought they said 'Hippo , hurry ! ''
Well he was definitely no John Wayne and the police quickly had him out of the saddle before he could 'stirr up' trouble
Can you beat this one for a road blockage ?

Recently saw a crackasaurus in the middle of the road, high as a kite , why people get in that state is beyond me
martinlufc5637 I think i have seen a few intoxicatasauruses staggering around the streets myself M , not so extinct nowadays
A big black and white pig sitting on the edge of the road. It’s pannage season and the pigs are let out to roam the forest to eat the acorns but this one was obviously too tired.
We regularly get loose horses, or cows and seagulls where I am. It's not strange where I am. I saw a mouse on the tracks on the tube last night as we are on holiday in london
This is not anything strange lol but this was years ago, I had passed the drivers test not long ago and my mum suddenly shouted stop the car!! She was sitting in passengers seat she opened door and closed it so fast I was like why?!! She saw and picked up £20!
kitty88uk Strangely enough this has happened to me twice
Once in the 1990's where i was driving at night and my headlights caught something lying in the road , i think my eyesight was pin sharp then K, when i stopped and walked back i found it was £35 folded up blowing slightly along the road
The second time about three years ago again driving in the day i spotted a wallet in the road
I stopped and picked it up and there was £400 in it
There was a driving licence in there along with other things and a card from an estate agent
Instead of taking it to the police knowing the hassle and paperwork involved i contacted the estate agent giving the persons name
They got back to me the next day and had called the owner and gave my number
I met the husband and wife the day after at a local pub and gave him the wallet back, he was very pleased and bought us a drink
It turned out he had left the wallet on his car bonnet as he was loading the car with shopping in the supermarket car park and driven off
telmel how fabulously honest of you. I think that quite a large % of people would have just kept it. Star of the year award to you !
Around here it is not unusual to see deer, the unlucky ones sadly end up on the bonnets of some vehicles when the drivers are taken unawares!
Ive had to stop the traffic for a mummy duck and her ducklings to cross the road. The traffic didn’t seem to bother them at all.
After floods where i live there is a caravan park that always floods but one year it had obviously been higher than normal as in the middle of this little country bridge was a plastic green patio table I live in a busy tourist town and a woman had been arrested for shoplifting - i presume it was in her protest to this that she decided to strip - on a busy main road. The policeman just looked so embarrassed. I’m so glad my daughter was with or the rest of my family would never have believed it. Maybe she thought that she would be let go if she was naked ?
It probably isn't quite right for this thread but years ago I used to cycle to work in the evenings and come home early morning doing my nightshift. I would cycle along the dual carriageway between Yeovil and Sherborne. I would often get what I would call a Rabbit salute as I would pass a huge amount of rabbits lined up on the side waiting for the road to clear before they would cross over. As I rode past these 30 or so lined up rabbits I could only have been a metre or so away from them but I guess they thought I was like any other vehicle and wouldn't stop. I was always worried one would jump out and get trapped in my wheel but they never did but I slowed slightly just in case. It was always on the left side going to work I never saw them on the other side riding back home I guess the timing was wrong for that. This is the place and I can see now the other side of the road has crops which perhaps they were interested in hence crossing over.
BonzoBanana that really made me smile picturing all those bunnies it reminded me of Wallace and Gromit! You were brave riding that road!
Recently I had to stop because 2 male and about 8 female turkeys were taking up the entire road and boy were they aggressive.
Auntielettie I suppose with it getting so close to christmas that might explain it A
I was driving back home and in our crescent there was a man who had two (I assume pigmy) goats on leads on the pavement like they were dogs. I’d not seen it before or afterwards very strange.
