Why This Grandma Refuses to Buy Her Grandchildren Birthday Gifts
Other
So this grandmother refuses to buy her grandchildren birthday gifts as she says they already receive enough
She doesn't want to waste money on toys etc that they will use for a while then just throw away
It all seems a bit mean until you hear what she is doing instead
She says the money she saves on the gifts she is putting away weekly in a savings account for when they get older
They do get christmas presents though
So the question is do you think she is doing the right thing, or should she buy them birthday presents ?

I think a lot of people buy people gifts because they feel they have to. Good on her for doing what she is doing though, that is a phenomenal amount to put aside for them and they are very lucky. I'm sure her grandchildren still get treated by her at times anyway.
The only one thing I will say having lost friends at a young age and I mean one as a 5 year old. Life isn't guaranteed, I do agree with what she is doing but also as morbid as it sounds, anything can happen in life, so if she wanted to get them something suddenly for a birthday, she should.
Teaching them the skills and even teaching them the specific skills of how to save money, might be more beneficial to them for future and time... quality bonding time with a person, especially a child can be the best times and most cherished 'gift' you could ever give them.
Presents shouldn't be mandatory, whoever you are.
