Why are Shirt Buttons on Opposite Sides for Men and Women?

Other

Ok, it might not matter to most people why a womans shirt buttons are on the left and a mans on the right , but there are some interesting theories behind the practice and they are still manufactured that way to this day

From breast feeding to riding a horse , from men being able to draw their swords easier , to wealthy women being dressed by their servants , there are many different thoughts on why this happened , and the articles below makes an interesting read, i posted two as they both state different reasons

The one about inferiority is quite controversial, obviously this could not be stated today

'from men being able to draw their swords easier' did men keep their swords sheathed in their shirts then? 😆😆

tumblespots maybe it’s cause it could get caught on the overlapping side of the material that has the holes rather than the buttons

jms19 With all the tunics the swashbucklers used to wear over their shirts I'm surprised it mattered Image
