Would You Be Willing to Give This Lady a Job ?

In the News

This heavily tattooed woman is complaining because nobody will give her a job because of the way she looks

She is completely covered from head to toe

She said she only had one job before, cleaning toilets, but cannot even get this position now

And she continues adding tattoos where she has spaces

To be honest it is difficult to know if she is male or female from the photo of her face being so heavily inked

I can understand her difficulty to impress at job interviews, although appearance should not normally be the main reason to not employ someone

She shouldn’t be judged by her appearance, she might be kind, caring and intelligent.

telmel I can’t believe she’s entitled to have her facial tattoos removed free on NHS.

Pjran I have seen the after effects of tattoo removal and it is not that straight forward

I should imagine it would look a mess removing them from the face

Gender shouldn't come into it, you can't tell anyone's gender by looking at them.

She should be sent for mental health support via the NHS not tattoo removal, not because of her tattoos but because they are being able to be removed because of the mental health issues caused by bullying.

People shouldn't judge others for the way they look, but she modified herself that way, so people will look, it is unusual, especially as she says it is artwork, people could be admiring too.

I could understand if schools or nursing homes would find it hard to have someone covered in face tattoos, as much as it shouldn't matter, she would be subject to more questions, comments and looks from children, elderly or confused or upset older people.

She mentions one local place wouldn't give her a job because of her tattoos, she doesn't mention many job interviews and meetings, does she KNOW that was the reason?

Most jobs now need you to fill in online forms and to provide your CV of which they wouldn't see her until the interview process. Many people without tattoos are finding it hard to find jobs at the moment, they do tend to hire those that have been or are already in work too. I wouldn't have thought the way you look would matter in a lot of roles, there are loads of call centre, phone jobs, online work and working from home positions, so if it is to do with the way she looks.

If newspapers would give her job options or information on places to find work rather than paying her for her side, that would be much more of an incentive and be more representable of the person looking for work.

DeBunny Thanks D, a very sensible summary of what is happening

As you say some jobs she just could not do, like working with the elderly, i think they would feel intimidated by her facial tattoos , they are a different generation and would probably not understand or see it as artwork

Otherwise there are jobs that don't involve people interaction like cleaning jobs or data input , online positions etc as you mentioned

But it all depends on her qualifications, they are not mentioned in the article

I know it's not the point of this chat but how can she afford all of them without a job?

Personally all my tattoos are easily covered but yes I would give her a job, unfortunately for her no one would hire me in a job with that much responsibility

Imnotcheap Tattoos are very expensive so it is surprising she can afford so many, especially if her last job was cleaning, I’m sure this would not have paid for the tattoos

Think it's all wrong how she's judged all because she's got tattoos some people think it's a art to have them and it makes people feel more confident in themselves I'd definitely give her a job no matter was it was

Maybe she could train to be a tattoo artist? She might even find someone reads the article and offers her a job! People should not judge on appearance but they do. At least she is trying to work and support her children.

telmel - The tattoo artist(s) is the problem not her. They are taking her money (and probably laughing at her as well for making them so rich). She is workshy end of.

I find that a bit unpleasant to look at and it would put me off going somewhere where I had to deal with her. I also find it a bit unpleasant when woman have lots of piercings on their face. They certainly have a right to do that but I think commercial businesses have the right to reject employing them for certain roles and that shouldn't be a surprise to those people. A commercial business can struggle to make a profit and it can be so easy to turn a profitable business into a loss making business so you have to focus on getting as much right as possible. You want the right people in every role and don't want to detract from your core business.

If I was running a business that manufactured furniture for example I would consider her for the factory floor making the furniture but not the office or a sales rep. It would cut down her employment possibilities. I probably wouldn't even consider her for a cleaner in the offices.

Not sure why people do that.I'm sure she's lovely but it's never gonna be a vote winner with employers .

It's sad why some people cover them selfs head to toe in tattoos like some jobs will not employ anyone with tattoos that's on show like working as a nurse we can have them but they must be able to be covered up

I don't think tattoos mattered so much hundreds of years ago, looks never came into obtaining a job so much

Most tattoo designs seem to be from the Maori culture , where they have them for deeper reasons

Why do so many New Zealanders have tattoos?

To the Maori, tattooing is linked to mana or a sense of pride and prestige. The head is considered to be the most sacred part of the body, so ta moko was reserved for the face only and for Maori of high social status. Facial moko for Maori women was a chin tattoo or moko kauae

Although it did surprise me that they originated in other countries a lot longer ago

What is the cultural origin of tattoos?

A brief history of tattoos

The earliest evidence of tattoo art comes in the form of clay figurines that had their faces painted or engraved to represent tattoo marks. The oldest figures of this kind have been recovered from tombs in Japan dating to 5000 BCE or older

People shouldn't be judged by their appearance lots of people get obsessed when they start getting tattoos some people get them to hide scars in there life and it makes them feel happy I would definitely give her a gob she could be the kindest person people are to quick to judge others I don't have any tattoos myself but I think some are nice on others

I would give her a Job. Why does everyone and everything revolve around what you look like. Where I work we have held private events for 780 Bikers the other week, 600 Rock N Roll People & I call It Glastonbury Part 2 People. Different times obviously and the People have been wonderful. No trouble at all. I work at a Holiday Park by the way.
