Woman died because of a Faulty Ottoman Bed Mechanism
In the News
This is a first for me, i have never heard of anyone losing their life because of the mechanism on an ottoman bed
But this poor woman did when it closed on her neck , suffocating her
I know these beds can be very stiff to raise and lower , i have one myself, and there is quite a lot of resistance due to the piston style mechanisms
So take care if using this type of bed, especially the elderly or anyone with young children in the house

What an horrible way to die, they do say there is a million ways to die, it's just gone up by one
This is absolutely dreadful. How very sad. That's a thing that should never have happened.
What an awful story. My son has a single bed with storage and this kind of mechanism. I find it very hard to open and shut so I leave it to him.
They say that the bed mechanism was faulty but I haven’t seen any recalls which is worrying. I have an ottoman bed - which lifts at the end of the bed. But because it is a bit stiff I don’t put anything in there unless it’s something not needed often.
My son has this type of double bed which needs to be lifted. I struggle to lift it to put bedding away and i'm looking for a new bed. It's sad news about the lady who died.
