Is It Any Wonder I Am Confused?

This is the result of an hour or so sorting various cables, gadgets, ear buds and plugs. There is a dictaphone, ipod player, cd player and a notebook (small laptop). I haven't been able to charge anything as I don't know what goes where but at least I've sorted and bagged everything.
I will now search my office and try to find manuals etc but don't hold out much hope of them helping. Why can't manufacturers put some sort of sticker or label or give simple instructions on what plugs in where? And they wonder why older people cant get to grips with tech!
Lol it's not just older people I've got a bag full of plugs and wires luckily we have the same charger for all the tablets and phones so I can't complain
If only we only had so few cables and gadgets. MrsChimp had a rummage through our chest of drawers recently and it was packed full of obsolete phones and tech that we'll never use again. I think that a trip to recycling might be in order.
At least the powers that be have told the phone manufacturers that they are all going to have to issue the same charging cables.
Lynibis a new European ruling is coming into force where all gadgets have to a type C charging cable, phones/headphones ect...
I would be beside myself if I had that to contend with and the sad fact is that once you have bought the product, they don't care! If manufacturers did care they would give proper instruction manuals...
I do feel for you as I can't cope in the modern world either.
tumblespots when I think of the folk at the over 65s club I go to (hardly any have internet or a more than basic mobile) I feel I am not too bad in comparison. I shop online, do my banking, read books, email, surf the web and loads of stuff but as you say you're sort of left in the lurch once you've purchased. My problem is having far too many leads and wires, most not ending with plugs, and if I could only match them up without blowing something up I could use them more!
My oldest techy son was visiting last weekend but hadn't had this sort out then, will grab him next visit!
Lynibis That's probably your best bet. I would be scared of sticking a lead in the wrong place with all those wires. Good luck in getting it all up and running.
sallylester1 it's quite comforting to know others feel the same as it was making me feel a bit of a dummy!
I have just been away and it’s a nightmare making sure you have the right leads and plugs etc for all the gadgets. Then on my return putting them all back where they belong.
eyeballkerry I suppose that I should count myself lucky as my three most used items, kindle for reading, kindle fire tablet and phone all use same charger which I keep plugged in (but switch off between use) and rotate all 3.
I now put a named sticky label (like a flag) on all cables that way I have an idea of what I'm looking for in the jumble of wires.
lilyflower yes I really do need to be more organised and when I receive/buy something put a colour code on or a sticky label using the alphabet, A to A, B to B etc. But you know what it's like you put it away and it's like a naughty elf immediately jumbles it all up
I wrap some masking tape or white Duck tape round leads to label them using a sharpie .
Do keep meaning to reclaim my bottom two sideboard drawers by binning the dozens of leads (Including SCARTS ! ) that lurk in there .
intherealworld that's a good idea. I would love to throw some out but worry I will then find I needed it!
Lynibis Have a "Half way house " for them ? A bag/box in the shed /garage . Then if you haven't used them in a year it's safe to chuck them . Apparently some do similar with clothes that clutter up a wardrobe / drawers .
Don't get me started! We have a drawer full of old tech that needs sorting, everything from PlayStation to Phones .
Lynibis ....No , there are loads of people out there who are confused by all tge different gadgets & chargers, NOT everyone is good with Technology...
I had a bag full of things like this before as well, in the end i decided to throw them all away and if I needed any of them at a later date i would just buy a new one off ebay.
I have a draw full of cables, and don’t have a clue what they are for. It stresses me out opening the draw and looking at them, I really need to get it sorted
I'm terrible for keeping stuff like this organised. Sometimes I dedicate a bit of time to having a mini sort but never completely organise everything properly. Still got so much stuff to sell once I've sorted all the bits together. I'm ashamed to admit I've often bought things that I know I already have that I need just because I can't find the original one. Typically it appears one week after buying its replacement. Still I guess its good now that ebay has no selling fees.
I always put the instructions in a labelled folder and put stickers round the cables so i know what it goes to. This is only as I learnt my lesson by buying a new battery for my vacuum cleaner when all i needed was the proper cable lol
