3,600 year old cheese found in an Chinese tomb
In the News
A 3,600 year old Chinese coffin was opened in 2003 and archaeologists found an embalmed mummy with something laid across it's neck, originally it was thought to be jewellery
It was identified at a later date as a piece of kefir cheese , the oldest cheese ever found in a recognisable condition , although any likeness to its' original texture was well gone
Saying that , it was well preserved because of the dry climate, so still in one piece , just about
Anyone for cheese and crackers ?
Imnotcheap I think that cheese is extra extra mature I , in fact, it would give gorgonzola a run for its money
This is a totally unbelievable story. No way could any type of cheese last this long. How do they even know its 3,600 years ago????!!!! A complete nonsense story made up by a "mad" scientist.
It won’t be the kind of cheese we are familiar over here - Chinese cheese is more like curd
