Is It worth Buying an Air Fryer?

Ask a Question

Thinking about buying an Air Fryer to save money on gas but do they really save money and what does the food taste like, not sure if they work?

Think of it as a small fan oven rather than a replacement for a deep fat fryer . You can use them for multiple foods (as you would an oven) and being smaller they use so much less energy . Not sure there would be as much of a saving against gas , as gas is much cheaper than electricity watt for watt .

I have 2 , a 4.5litre one and a 5.5 litre one as I soon realised the 4.5litre one was not big enough . Remember you can't "ram " stuff in or it won't cook properly . You need to fill it loosely so anything less than a 4litre size is a waste of time and the larger the better , a twin drawer model could be ideal .

There was a shortage of stock of airfryers a few months back and retailers hiked the prices to ridiculous levels , now there is plenty of stock so prices have come down to more reasonable levels .

Think what you will use it for then go and view some to gauge the size . Then if you find a 6 litre one is the right size search for that size on EBay , Amazon , Currys , AO etc and wait for a bargain to appear .

rowley1943 Yes I've been giving the same advice on airfryers since before they became the " must have " energy saving device and before the prices went through the roof . Glad it has been of assistance . Note the warning though , if you normally use a gas hob and gas oven the energy savings will not be so noticeable , if at all .

Yes, I love using it to cook/warm up chicken nuggets and make 'em crispy.

They're very popular in the U.K., not so much in the rest of Europe and if you see them, tiny ones cost the price of big ones in U.K.

I have just bought a Ninja Dual airfryer, so I am just getting used to it, so far I have been impressed, too early to say if it saves £.

rowley1943 Its really clever, you can set each side to cook a different way and can sync them to finish at the same time. Had a jacket potatoes tonight really crispy skins in a fraction of the time.🙂

We've had an airfryer for a while. It is brilliant. You can cook most things in it. There are obviously some things that can't be done.

Ours definitely saves us money. We looked at our usage and it was a lot higher on the days the oven was used.

We love our air fryer, you can do all sorts in them! You can even cook cakes in them...not that I've tried but honestly I think they're brilliant. We are a family of 5 and have a 5L one and does us but I have got my eye on a larger one!

They'll all end up in the garage in the end along with the hooded fleece blankets.

We just use ours as a more convenient oven, especially as our main oven badly needs replacing, which will have to wait for some major work on our electrics! It is really useful and is great for smaller items and servings. Probably saves us a bit of money too but its the convenience thats the selling point for us
