If You're over 60....

I would scrap the free bus pass for the OAPs. I know a couple who buy expensive BMWS and motor homes every couple of years. They find a site then catch the bus free!

I think if that was the agreement from an earlyish age I’d be happy with it but I wouldn’t be happy if they changed it when i was in my 60s if I’m being honest

You don't get a bus pass and other retirement related boons until retirement so I was very surprised to get free scrips when I hit 60. If you are still working not sure why. You already get them free for drugs you need for life.

I haven't claimed my bus pass yet (I am 70) and won't do so until I can no longer drive.

You get free prescriptions whether you are working or not In Wales and any age too. Different government than England too. I live In England by the way.

I'm in my 30s, but know what, as long as I can I'll avoid prescriptions as you call them. It's just legalized drugs.

Some people remain alive due to these drugs so there's that.

I'm not over 60 but my parents are and have alot of health problems the latest been cancer. I know there couldn't afford to pay for prescriptions because of the medical problems there have. So I think maybe people who are still working on a really high income or who have alot in savings should pay but not everyone.

I think that old age should be standardised, bus pass age, prescriptions even getting your pension all have differing ages to qualify. In the olden days it was 60 or 65 .... Easy to work out

If you can afford it, pay for them.

I know that the older you get, the more medication that you need, but you can get a 'season ticket' for just over £100.

Why should millionaires pay nothing for their prescriptions? Same with the TV licence.

And why should people who are loaded get all the child benefits and everything connected to them? The only reason is that it would cost a fortune in administration, so they blanket pay everyone. Do you think that the rich would pay these perks back or turn them down? No chance.

Although I agree that you should continue to get free prescriptions from 60 onwards I am reluctant to suggest that it becomes means tested. Means testing would mean that you are once again having to fill in forms upon forms when you get older, something that isn't necessarily easy to do, and frankly it lets a nosy government know everything about you. That would result in more of a dictatorship society. Don't the government have enough (too much) control already and let's face it they can't even manage the job now let alone if you add more things for them to monitor.

Ah man I think it’s unfair to keep raising the age on things. By 60 you have worked hard enough I’d say

I remember reading when the winter payments were first brought in they should be means tested. It would have cost so much to start another department up that it was decided everyone over a certain age would be paid.
