  • £550 million investment set for UK expansion, creating 40 jobs per store.
  • Locations include Castle Gresley, Bardon, High Wycombe, and Stoke Gifford.

Aldi is on an expansion spree, ready to unveil 35 new stores across the UK, kickstarting with eagerly awaited openings in Preston and Derby later this month. This ambitious expansion is part of Aldi's larger vision to cement its status further as a leading supermarket chain in the UK, aiming for a total of 1,500 stores nationwide.

James Flanders at The Sun reported that Aldi's strategic move involves a hefty £550 million investment to broaden its footprint in the UK market this year alone. This significant investment underscores Aldi's commitment to making high-quality food accessible to more people, while also contributing to the local economies by creating approximately 40 new job opportunities with each store opening.

The first phase of openings will see new Aldi stores in various locations, including Castle Gresley, Bardon, High Wycombe, and Stoke Gifford, following the initial ones in Preston and Derby. Although specific opening dates for these stores are yet to be announced, the anticipation among shoppers is palpable.

First 6 stores coming in the coming months:

  • Portway, Preston
  • Meteor Retail Park, Derby
  • Castle Gresley, Derbyshire
  • Swinfen Vale, Bardon
  • High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
  • Stoke Gifford, Bristol

The remaining locations aren't set in stone yet, but potential store openings include:

  • Bromley
  • Beckenham
  • Richmond
  • Walthamstow
  • Wanstead
  • Winchmore Hill
  • Notting Hill
  • Chelsea
  • Kensington
  • Chiswick
  • Highbury
  • Hackney
  • Barnet

Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK's managing director of national real estate, expressed excitement over the expansion, highlighting the brand's success in attracting new customers and its commitment to offering superior value. "After attracting more new customers than any other supermarket in the last 12 months, we are more determined than ever to expand our presence across the country," Neale stated.

In addition to store expansion, Aldi is set to increase its staff pay, reflecting its appreciation for the workforce's contribution to the company's growth. Starting June 1, store assistants will see their starting pay rise to £12.40 per hour, with a higher rate of £13.65 per hour within the M25 area.

This expansion is not just about growing Aldi's store count; it's also about enhancing the shopping experience and making savings more accessible. Shoppers can look forward to finding red sticker products for additional discounts, special deals on fruits and vegetables, and even "fakeaways" offering a more affordable alternative to takeaways.

As Aldi forges ahead with its expansion, it joins other retailers like Asda, Primark, WHSmith, and Lidl in a collective effort to grow their UK footprints, reflecting a robust and competitive retail sector ready to meet the diverse needs of British shoppers.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Aldi's ambitious expansion plan is a clear indication of its commitment to bringing quality and affordability to more customers across the UK. It's not just about the convenience of having more stores; it's about the positive impact on local communities and economies, offering more jobs and making budget-friendly shopping accessible to everyone. Aldi's strategy of providing quality at low prices continues to set it apart in the competitive UK supermarket scene."
