Aldi Boosts Pay for Thousands to Record £12.40
- Aldi announces a pay increase to £12.40 an hour for its workers, effective from 1 June.
- This marks the second salary raise for Aldi employees within the year.
- The supermarket chain sets a new record for entry-level pay rates in the UK.
Aldi has declared that from the 1st of June this year, it will increase the pay for thousands of its workers. Hourly rates for store assistants and deputy store managers will increase from £12 to £12.40 outside the M25 and £13.55 to £13.65 within.
This adjustment not only represents the second pay raise Aldi employees have received this year but also establishes a new precedent as "the highest level of entry pay ever to be paid by a British supermarket." The move reflects Aldi's commitment to supporting its workforce and staying competitive in the retail market.
Ruby Flanagan at The Mirror reported that the supermarket giant is taking significant strides to ensure its staff are rewarded for their dedication. With this latest increase, Aldi continues to lead by example, underscoring the importance of fair compensation in the retail industry. The company's proactive approach to employee pay is indicative of a broader trend among UK supermarkets to attract and retain the best talent by offering competitive wages.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Aldi's decision to set a new benchmark for entry-level wages in the supermarket sector not only demonstrates a strong commitment to its employees but also highlights the growing emphasis on fair compensation within the industry. This move is likely to have a ripple effect, prompting other retailers to reevaluate their own pay structures in order to stay competitive."
I went into Aldi today and the work was 90% manual labour. The staff bringing out these huge "pallets" from the stockroom, serving the ungrateful customers (who kept on complaining there is hardly any "lanes" open), staff blocking them getting food off the shelves (which is true), stale/bruised fruits and vegetables mixed with fresh products. I am fully aware that Aldi staff has to work very, very fast. But is it worth getting such a massive pay rise for doing this type of shop work?
