Aldi Celebrates Early Switch to Cage-Free Eggs
- Aldi achieves 100% cage-free egg commitment ahead of schedule
- Collaboration with suppliers crucial to success
- More British free-range eggs sold than any other UK supermarket
Aldi has triumphantly reached its target of selling only cage-free eggs well ahead of its original timeline. The retailer, recognized as the UK's fourth biggest supermarket, has collaborated closely with suppliers to enhance animal welfare and now exclusively offers cage-free eggs in all its UK outlets.
Notably, all of Aldi’s eggs adhere to the British Lion Code standards. According to the latest Kantar data, Aldi has also managed to outpace other UK supermarkets in the sale of British free-range eggs.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, noted, “Improving animal welfare is incredibly important to us at Aldi, and by working with our suppliers we have been able to hit our 100% cage-free target more than a year early. Our British suppliers are at the heart of our business and without them Aldi wouldn’t be where it is today and we are proud to work with so many UK egg farmers.”
To further bolster the British cage-free egg sector, Aldi has invested over £50 million in the past two years and ensures long-term contracts for its egg suppliers, providing them with the financial stability to invest and grow.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, “Aldi’s commitment to animal welfare and support for UK farmers is commendable and sets a great example for the industry.”
