In an impressive showing at the Retail Industry Awards 2024, Aldi has emerged as the top "Drinks Retailer of the Year" for the seventh consecutive year. The awards ceremony, hailed as the Oscars of the grocery retail sector, took place at The Brewery in London and saw Aldi outperform rivals like Sainsbury’s, M&S, and Waitrose.

The judges, chosen for their deep industry expertise, commended Aldi for its diverse and high-quality array of beers, wines, and spirits. They praised the supermarket's strategic approach and strong supplier relationships, particularly with English producers.

One judge noted, “Aldi have really stepped up how they have executed the category, including at the premium end. They have a strong team and have built great connections with their suppliers, particularly English producers.”

Another judge added, “Aldi has a clear strategic plan for developing the category and a stand-out offering in the off-licence category. Price, category developments, and shopper engagement all underpin Aldi’s place as a leader in drinks retailing.”

Alongside the drinks category accolade, Aldi also scooped up awards for “Chilled Retailer of the Year,” “Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year,” and the “Diversity, Equality & Inclusion” award for the second consecutive year.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, expressed her pride, saying, “These four wins are the cherry on the cake after another year of hard work from our team and it’s fantastic to have that recognised by the industry’s top experts. I’m incredibly proud of our buyers, suppliers, and everyone else involved who goes above and beyond to make sure our high quality, great value ranges are the best of the best for our customers.”

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, remarked, “Aldi's recent award wins highlight the company's continuing strength in the grocery sector. Their focus on high-quality, low-priced products, using less packaging, and sourcing from local suppliers is something other supermarkets could take note of. When it comes to saving money, consumers should always shop around and compare prices. Aldi is often cheaper than other supermarkets, but it's good to also check places like Lidl, and using price comparison tools like on the Latest Deals app to see where the cheapest wine is.”
