Aldi Shuts All Stores on Boxing Day to Thank Staff
- All UK stores closed on 25th and 26th December
- Regular hours resume on 27th December
- Extended hours leading up to Christmas
Aldi has announced its decision to keep all UK stores closed on Boxing Day as a gesture of appreciation towards its employees. This move by the nation's fourth-largest supermarket allows staff extra time to enjoy the festive season with their families. Shoppers can visit Aldi stores up until Christmas Eve and the doors will reopen on 27th December.
In the lead-up to the holidays, Aldi will also be extending their operating hours, ensuring customers have ample time to prepare for Christmas.
Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, stated: “Christmas is such a special period for many of our colleagues, and by keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, Aldi gives them more time to spend with their loved ones. Customers will have plenty to look forward to in the run-up to Christmas, with exciting Christmas ranges hitting shelves in time for the festive season.”
Additionally, Aldi has disclosed plans to open 23 new stores by the year's end, including locations in Muswell Hill, London and Mere Green, Birmingham. This expansion is part of an £800 million investment initiative for 2024.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, remarked, “It's heartening to see companies prioritising their employees' well-being, especially during such a family-centric time of year.
Great on you Aldi, when my family were young I had to work boxing day and I hated it. I think staff deserve that extra day off and if we can’t mange with out shopping for two days we need to revalue our lives.
we don’t need shops open 24 / 7 all retail staff should be given Boxing Day off
About time supermarkets closed on boxing day, mind you my local Aldi has been closed 2 day's for a while now, I hope they all follow suit.
Well done Aldi, your staff work so hard, especially in lead up to Christmas. Hope others follow your good example
