Aldi Announces 13 New Stores - Is One Near You?
- Aldi announces plans for 13 new store locations in London as part of its UK expansion.
- The supermarket aims to operate 1,500 stores across the UK, with 100 new branches within the M25.
- New stores promise to create 3,500 jobs, contributing to local economies.
Aldi has just dropped some exciting news for shoppers and job seekers alike: the budget-friendly supermarket chain is looking to significantly expand its footprint in the UK, especially around London. With over 1,000 stores already serving customers nationwide, Aldi's ambitious goal is to push this number to 1,500 in the coming years. And for Londoners, this could mean a brand-new Aldi could be popping up right around the corner.
Sam Walker at The Sun gives us the scoop on Aldi's plans, revealing a targeted list of 13 London areas earmarked for new stores. From Bromley to Hackney, and Notting Hill to Barnet, Aldi is eager to bring its affordable shopping experience to more parts of the capital. However, it's worth noting that these locations are currently under consideration, meaning plans are still in the hypothetical stage.
The full list of locations includes:
- Bromley
- Beckenham
- Richmond
- Walthamstow
- Wanstead
- Winchmore Hill
- Notting Hill
- Chelsea
- Kensington
- Chiswick
- Highbury
- Hackney
- Barnet
Jonathan Neale, Aldi's managing director of national real estate, emphasized the strategy behind these potential openings. "The locations we’ve identified are places where there is demand for our stores," Neale said, highlighting Aldi's commitment to investing in areas craving its unique blend of quality and value.
This news comes as part of Aldi's broader strategy to introduce both traditional and Aldi Local stores within the M25, creating around 3,500 new jobs. The traditional Aldi stores require about 20,000 square feet of space and roughly 100 parking spaces, while Aldi Local stores, catering to more urban shoppers, are a cozier 5,000 square feet.
Aldi's expansion news is part of a larger retail growth trend across the UK, with other big names like Asda, Primark, and WHSmith also announcing plans for new branches and investments. Lidl, another discount supermarket rival, is not far behind, with its own expansion plans aiming to raise substantial investment funding.
As Aldi continues to grow, so do the opportunities for shoppers to find great deals and for communities to benefit from new job openings. Keeping an eye on red sticker deals and signing up for Aldi's newsletters and social media updates can help savvy shoppers stay ahead of the curve on the best bargains, including Aldi's popular "fakeaways."
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Aldi's ambitious expansion in London and beyond is a testament to the supermarket's growing appeal among UK shoppers. With plans for new stores and thousands of jobs on the horizon, Aldi is poised to bring its winning combination of quality and affordability to even more consumers."
I love my local Aldi the veg and fruit last longer than Asda's.
There are some items I don't get from Aldi. I wish they did better bread theirs goes mouldy after 3 days. I dont like their toilet roll so I still go to Asda their toilet roll is also cheaper for the quantity. I used to have yoghurts from Aldi for work but they added saccharine to them which I don't like the taste of so again Asda. I do wish I could do my whole shop at Aldi.
