Coca-Cola Reintroduces Beloved Flavor After 18-Year Hiatus

Image
  • Coca-Cola announces the return of its Lemon flavor to the UK market, previously discontinued in 2006.
  • Available in Zero Sugar and Original Taste versions across major retailers.
  • Launch follows fan demands on social media for the flavor's return.
  • New Absolut Vodka and Sprite canned cocktails also introduced by Coca-Cola in collaboration with Pernod Ricard.

After years of passionate pleas from fans, Coca-Cola is making waves by bringing back a flavor that vanished from shelves 18 years ago. Yep, you read that right—the Lemon flavored cola is making a grand return to the UK, much to the delight of its loyal followers. Since its disappearance in 2006, this zesty flavor has been sorely missed.

Available now, cola enthusiasts can find this refreshing blend of Coca-Cola's signature taste with a tangy lemon twist at their nearest major retailer. Whether you're watching your sugar intake or just love the classic taste, Coca-Cola has got you covered with both Zero Sugar and Original Taste options. These come in a variety of sizes, ensuring there's something for everyone.

The decision to resurrect this flavor wasn't made on a whim. Coca-Cola noticed a growing chorus of fans on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), voicing their longing for the lemon zest to return. Comments ranged from heartfelt pleas to baffled queries about its absence, highlighting the drink's missed presence.

Originally launched in 2001 based on consumer insights that people enjoyed a slice of lemon in their cola, its discontinuation in 2006 left a void in the UK, although it remained available in other countries. The launch of Diet Coke Citrus Zest in 2007, despite its eventual discontinuation in 2018, showed Coca-Cola's willingness to experiment with citrus flavors.

Laura Moon, a senior brand manager at Coca-Cola, expressed excitement over the return, hinting at more surprises: “We’re thrilled to be able to meet consumer demand by expanding our flavors portfolio with the inclusion of Coca-Cola Lemon – it’s quite literally happiness in a bottle! We’re consistently considering new variations and would encourage eagle-eyed Coca-Cola fans to watch this space for more.”

But that's not all from Coca-Cola this year. In an exciting collaboration with Pernod Ricard, they've also launched Absolut Vodka and Sprite ready-to-drink canned cocktails, blending two iconic tastes in a portable format perfect for on-the-go enjoyment.

James Flanders at The Sun reported these developments, highlighting the continuous innovation in the beverage industry. From the reintroduction of beloved flavors to the creation of new combinations, Coca-Cola remains at the forefront, keen to satisfy its diverse consumer base.

Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Coca-Cola's decision to bring back its Lemon flavor after 18 years is a testament to the brand's commitment to listening to its fans. It's fascinating to see such a direct response to consumer demand, and it'll be interesting to watch how this impacts the market. With the addition of new Absolut Vodka and Sprite canned cocktails, Coca-Cola is clearly aiming to refresh its offerings and keep the excitement bubbling."

Didn't know it was 'a thing'. But it will remove the need of adding in that lemon slice, perhaps?

I hadn't missed it's presence as don't even remember seeing it on the shelves in the local supermarkets, but willing to give it a try if it is in stock.

I know there have been plenty of different odd flavours in the eat out establishments though in those pour your own drinks machines.
