Iconic Record Store 'Our Price' Makes High Street Comeback After 20 Years
- Our Price is back: The classic record store chain is making a comeback in the UK today after more than 20 years.
- Online-only for now: Initially, Our Price will operate online, offering a vast range of vinyls and music merchandise.
- Future physical stores possible: While currently online, there's potential for physical store openings in the future.
- Nostalgic return: The store was a major player on the high streets from the 1970s until 2004.
An iconic name in the UK's music retail scene, Our Price, is making a buzzing comeback today, rekindling fond memories for vinyl lovers and music enthusiasts across the nation. Gone since 2004, the once-thriving chain had graced the high street with as many as 300 stores, rooted initially on London’s Finchley Road.
In a heartfelt social media announcement, the brand shared, "Countdown's ticking and we're pumped. And (if I'm honest) pretty jittery. We’re a crew of musos, DJs, and enthusiasts reviving a beloved brand. We're not exactly swimming in cash, so no flashy launch. We’re doing things organically, adding new lines every month. For us, it’s all about good vibes and keeping it personal."
Ellie Smitherman at The Sun captured the excitement surrounding this revival, noting that while Our Price will start as an online storefront, the doors may not be closed on eventually returning to the high street. Music lovers will now be able to dive into thousands of vinyl options and other merchandise from the comfort of their homes, with hopes high for the brand's sustainable growth.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "The return of Our Price is a significant nod to the enduring appeal of vinyl and physical music formats. It's a testament to the connection and nostalgia that these records hold for many. The strategy to start online and potentially expand to physical stores is a prudent approach in today's digital-first retail environment."
Lots of old stores are available online like Wilko, Comet, Jessops etc and Wilko even has a few physical stores too thanks to their new owner 'The Range' I think. I remember 'Our Price' and used to buy some records from them back in the 80s and 90s. I used to love my Dual CS505 record player it performed brilliantly with a lovely dynamic sound through a Aurex amplifier and Bowers and Wilkins speakers.
