Lidl to Add EV Charging Payments to Rewards App

- Transition from Pod Point starts this summer, completing by year-end.
- Over 370 charge points nationwide to be integrated.
Lidl is set to become the first UK supermarket to integrate electric vehicle (EV) charging payments into its rewards app, Lidl Plus. This new feature will allow customers to pay for EV charging directly through the app, enhancing convenience for eco-conscious shoppers.
The transition from the current provider, Pod Point, will begin this summer, with completion expected across more than 370 charge points nationwide by the end of the year. Customers will receive notifications via the Pod Point app with detailed instructions available at the charging terminals.
Aoife Morgan reported in Retail Gazette that Lidl first introduced EV charging points across its store network in 2017 and has since invested over £15 million into its EV charging infrastructure. Richard Taylor, GB Chief Development Officer at Lidl, stated, "Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Lidl. I’m incredibly proud of the investment that we’ve made into our EV charging infrastructure over the years, going above and beyond the sector to give greater access to rapid charging."
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Lidl’s initiative to integrate EV charging payments into their rewards app is a fantastic step towards enhancing the shopping experience for environmentally conscious customers."
