Wetherspoons To Broadcast Euro 2024 At 100s Of Pubs But 21 Locations Excluded
- Major Sports Event: Wetherspoons to show Euro 2024 football matches across the majority of its 809 pubs.
- Limited Availability: 21 pubs without screens won’t broadcast the games, missing out on the live sports action.
- Extended Hours Potential: Pubs may extend opening hours during key matches, pending final decision.
Starting June 14, Wetherspoons is gearing up to host live screenings of the Euro 2024 football tournament at most of its locations. This move will cater to football fans eager to catch the action as it unfolds in Germany. However, 21 of its pubs, such as The Crown in Berkhamsted and The Barrel Vault at St Pancras International, will miss out due to the absence of television screens.
Olivia Marshall from the Sun highlighted the company's enthusiasm for the event, with a spokesman stating, "Football fans can enjoy the Euro 2024 tournament live at Wetherspoon. We're showing all the fixtures throughout June and July, so you won't miss out on the action wherever your local is." This initiative is part of a broader trend for the pub chain, which also showcased the World Cups for both men and women in recent years.
The tournament excitement is further amplified by government plans allowing pubs to extend closing times till 1am on match days, should England or Scotland advance to the semi-finals. Such an extension could offer fans an additional two hours of celebration time.
While Wetherspoons has yet to decide on these extended hours, fans at participating locations can look forward to an international drinks selection and a menu featuring burgers, pizzas, and various small plates available until 11 pm.
Tom Church, Co-Founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, commented, "Wetherspoons' decision to broadcast Euro 2024 enhances the viewing experience for many, proving that enjoying major sports events doesn’t always come with a high price tag."
