Are You More Charitable around Christmas?
Ask a Question
I was wondering if people thought they were more charitable around Christmas time.
With the cost of living crisis have you given more or less than usual?
Yes definitely. I notice people are a lot nicer, they smile or say hello, chat in the aisles of shops etc. Despite what a lot of folk say, we do look forward to feasting, presents and seeing family, though I feel very sad for those who are not receiving the love and warmth of Christmas. I have given same as usual to my favourite charity.
I'm charitable all year round,go out of my way for other people, some people are soo lovely, I always offer help, from searching for items they need in the supermarket, getting items down, putting them on conveyor belt, packing them & on occasions carrying shopping back to where the person lives.
I am polite, always smile & say hello, encouraging the service users I support to wave to elderly people looking out of their window saying " Your face might be the only one that person sees all day as they might have no one"
My service users enjoy the friendly waves the get back too...
I wouldn't say I'm more charitable. I donate to charity all year round, as long as I can afford to. My work has had more charity fundraisers recently but that's normal.
I supported MIND giving £100 on my late Nephew's Birthday,Christmas & Anniversary since he passed 15.4.19 til his Dad had a Stroke & was unable to work then I sent the money I would have sent to MIND to my Niece to give to her Mum & Dad as I knew my sister & brother in law wouldn't except it..My sister text me & I said that she & my brother in law needed it more than MIND,she reluctantly accepted the money,my sister & brother in law have worked all their lives, never asked for anything,my family mean the world to me.
Loved always DRG 4.7.86 -15.4.19
I want to say yes but not anymore
One year I did massive shop for homeless page etc and cooked food and such and after what I saw when dropped it all off it made me loose faith in their cause.
Nope, I've stopped giving to charity because I'm absolutely sick of their begging adverts on the TV and radio. I was watching something today and 3 different begging ads came on in one break. It is not acceptable. And most of them are horrible trying to guilt trip you into giving them money. They just upset everyone and there's no need for it.
We might give to the donkey sanctuary this year because at least their ad shows happy donkeys and not scenes of people and animals suffering.
Even before the cost of living crisis, I was making a donation to the NSPCC, Shelter and the PDSA, plus £5 for a sensory toy for deaf and blind children, all at Christmas. I wish I could afford to give all year round, but I am raising my 2 children on my incapacity benefit.
No. There's a lot of pressure to be (guilt-tripping charity ads for starters) but I consistently do enough throughout the year by volunteering.
I like to do stuff for local charities and causes rather than donate to the big appeals, I do bits throughout the year aswell
I would say so, for myself it’s a combination of being around a lot of family and friends and the fact it’s really cold out. Always have to give to homeless at this time of year
I typically give less to charity around Christmas because I normally have a bit less money around that time due to Christmas. I know its the time for giving but the real world gets in the way and there is less to spend.
