Elf Houses in Iceland
Other
In Iceland they take the little people very seriously. So seriously in fact that they have Alfhol or elf houses. The elves or Huldufolk(hidden people) are afraid of churches but that doesn't stop people building them to convert them. It is also against the law to build on a piece of land where you can throw stones with even the remotest possibility of hitting the huldufólk.
Álfaborg (Elf Rock) is believed to be home to the queen of the Icelandic Elves and consequently one of the most active elf areas in Iceland. Following widespread protest by locals, many planned roads in the country have been diverted to avoid such ‘sacred’ places. And you thought the Irish had a thing.
