Foods That Don't Taste the Same Anymore

Other

Yesterday I treated myself to a much needed packet of biscuits and chose digestives for a good dunk! How disappointed was I? They were McVities with 'The Original' plastered all over them but tasted anything but. More like an own brand biscuit, thinner and not as grainy(?) as before.

I have also found it with tomato soup and baked beans to name a couple more. Are my taste buds failing as I age or is this a cynical cost cutting exercise by manufacturers?

Have you noticed any of your favourites losing flavour?

I've noticed that Heinz soup isn't as good as it was. I used to love Heinz Tomato soup and Chicken soup...but they just haven't got the same flavour anymore!??

Fatabelly it would seem many of the comments mention Heinz. It actually sickens me that these multi billion companies making obscene profits cannot even maintain the product quality yet still raise the price.

I have found that many brands make changes to recipes by replacing more expensive ingredients. As a result, they dilute/change some of the flavour.

Consumer yes I agree, they cut the manufacturing cost but still raise the price so double whammy for the consumer.

Cadbury’s is the obvious one since they changed the type of oil they use. I’m not sure i would have noticed if I wasn’t aware of the story but i can definitely tell the difference now especially with cream eggs which have a slightly greasy taste

jms19 must admit I knew years ago it had changed (the Americans took over?) but have not eaten any for a long time due to D2, I think I would be sick of I ate a creme egg now!

Charmed1 I don't like Heinz beans anymore but I tried Branston and found the beans were not soft but more what I would describe as al dente.

I might try Asda's next as recommended by stephenjgard

Nadiaparveen I actually bought some Seabrook crisps a while ago as they were cheaper than walkers. They were really nice and a bit like the Walkers Max crisps with a lot more substance and crunch to them.

Lynibis today I tried Seabrook's roast beef and Yorkshire pudding flavour crisps I picked up from a b&m store. It was goooood.

Yes the makeup of products has been changed. For example Weetabix don't have the same texture anymore. Now have unpleasant denser texture unlike the previous make up of the Weetabix biscuit.

Oh ye I buy ALDI digestives now crunchier and much nicer than Mcvities, Branston Beans are much better than Heinz Beans, Carnation milk the taste is not as strong, Croissants have no taste anymore, and MR KIPLING cakes are awefull now the taste and texture have changed so much some Ice Cream has lost its taste or the taste is more subtle Ice Lollies are the same. Greggs Pasties have changed some of their recipes and are not as nice, I have stopped buying so many items because things are not the same and I am tired of being disappointed and throwing things away and creating waste.

Findus Macaroni Cheese, back in the day, I could eat this for breakfast lunch dinner, not super as I have cereal. Then they changed the recipe to reduce salt and they ruined my life, but probably saved it as I never ate it again.

I think they do change recipes and especially now cost cutting as well. I don’t eat baked beans but mum recently said she had to go fishing for the beans as so much liquid!

I used to really enjoy Jersey Royal new potatoes, but for the past few years, they don't seem to have the same taste.

stevea808 you are absolutely right about that. I don't know why this should be as obviously they are grown not manufactured. I remember not so long ago having the occasional bowl of Jersey pots on their own with loads of butter and grated cheese and pepper. Naughty but nice. Now they taste of nothing and it could be that the soil is no longer good enough, they say veg is far less nutritious and tasty than 30 years ago.

Lynibis it's strange that there's no taste to them anymore. I was like you, I could eat a bowl of them with butter and salt.

janphoenix51 that's strange as I can't stand salt and yet I love Seabrook crisps which are loads cheaper than others. To me they are no saltier than Walkers, but then we all have different taste buds😋

The worse one for me is Cadbury chocolate. If I had a craving this was it but they changed the recipe when it got taken over and it’s never been the same.

eyeballkerry I agree and it doesn't help that it's now flat and thin instead of a thick chunky bar, I know that shouldn't alter the taste but I swear it does!

I have just had a few Pringles (stolen from the Christmas stash!) having not had any for ages. I remember them being moreish and crispy, these ones were hard and far too crunchy, I only ate 3 and boy did they hurt my gums. Used to be that once I popped I couldn't stop! Oh well the new recipe has saved me from myself😂

I totally agree I used to get hinez beans but noticed a big change in them a few years back so we switched to branstone, although lidle's own brand were ok the last time I tried them about a year ago.

I used to absolutely love chicken and mushroom pot noodles when they used to have all the E additives in them & was absolutely devastated when they took them out. I know they were ment to be bad for you but they could of kept those and still had the **** version they have now so I could have chosen iwither I wanted it or not. It kinda like wine, it's not good for you & the also have alcohol free wine but I'd still choose the bottle that isn't good for me & suffer the headache as it was good at the point of driving it & tastes better than the alcohol free stuff
