Secret Santa gifts that could get you sacked, would you take a chance ?

Ask a Question

We now live in a society where political correctness is at the forefront of everything we do

You have to think very carefully what to say and do nowadays incase you offend someone

Now even a long term tradition of giving each other gifts in work at christmas time comes with a warning

Certain 'secret santa' gifts could get you the sack, and that is not santas' sack , but the proverbial sack from your job

Things on the naughty list are alcohol, clothes, anything political or religious and risqué gifts

The message is to check with your HR policy first and rely on basic presents

So another christmas custom could eventually bite the dust , with secret santa becoming secret scrooge

Do you think this could affect you ?

I would take the chance and plead ignorance and good intent in keeping with the season.

I have never been involved in secret Santa and never likely too but I can not understand what all the fuss is about. I have seen people receive hideous items that you wouldn’t even give your grandma so much prefer someone giving a funny gift.

I've never done secret Santa, if I did, snowflakes wouldn't stop me from buying whatever I thought was funny

I guess it depends how well you know the person you’re getting the secret santa gift for. If you don’t know them well always best to just go for something generic like chocolate

Luckily we don't do secret Santa. Don't think I know any staff well enough to buy something they would really like

It wouldn't affect me because I just wouldn't take part if I had to go as far as check HR policy... 🙄

I've done Secret Santa before, luckily I knew the person well enough to get something they would like. I remember getting a leaving gift from work, a bottle of wine. I didn't drink and even if I did I was pregnant at the time! I just laughed and gave it to my mum. You would have to go a long way to get me a gift that offends me.

I dislike Secret Santa, a few years ago we changed over to a charity donation, this year it's for underprivileged children. So much better than getting a gag gift, smellies etc.
