What Do You Think Of Hybrid Cars?
Ask a Question
Just purchased a hybrid car and so far so good very impressed. Anyone got any views on these cars. What is your personal review?
We are definitely thinking of getting a hybrid when we next change. My grandad had one for 3 years and thought it was great. Only thing, was during lockdown it wasn't being driven, so the battery needed replaced, as wasn't being charged enough. It was covered under warranty though!
Depends on the manufacturer, the reliability varies quite a lot. If you buy a make that is generally unreliable anyway then the hybrid version might reduce that reliability even further. I guess the brand with the most experience with hybrids is Toyota and they offer a 5 year warranty too. Ideal for around town, perhaps not ideal for motorway miles where a diesel might be better. Secondhand hybrids can be a bit risky as the batteries could be end of life and very expensive to replace.
My preference is a plug in hybrid where you can charge them and get perhaps 20-30 miles range which might be all you need for regular commuting and then you use petrol for longer trips. This can dramatically reduce your fuel costs.
This is what our car does and I agree with you. I think it will be a long time before people will have the facility at home to charge a car.
