Is Love Island a Negative Show?

Ask a Question

Love Island is a very popular show but maybe not for the right reasons. Do we think it makes young people think they all have to look the same to be loved?

Never watched that dross , in fact I avoid it (and similar garbage like the plague ) . However I would say that anyone so empty headed as to believe they could ever find any sort of relationship by copying "influencers" must have quite a few screws loose .

Just discover the meaning of the word "influencer " or be influenced by ? To me that means you have no mind of your own or ability to make decisions of your own ? The only relationship you will find is with someone who wants to walk all over you . Not a recipe for "Love" methinks ?

Unfortunately TV and media in general is geared towards our weak minded poorly educated youth , hence the proliferation of gambling adverts etc . But of course the youngsters know what they are doing 🙄😒.

Golfforall i completely agree with you. i don’t even understand the concept of ‘influencers’ as, like you say, people should make their own educated decisions not just copy others

I think a lot of the people do go in there for love but I also believe some of them are there for free holiday, clout fame e.g. brand deals, modelling, influencing..

I think looks plays a huge role unfortunately but a lot of them know that too

Nadiaparveen i feel quite sorry for the ones who do go in the for love as i find it highly unlikely that is where they’ll find it, at least not how love ‘should be’

Nadiaparveen personally I doubt any of them are really looking for love

I've never been a big fan of reality shows, gogglebox is the only thing I watch that is similar. I don't think these particular programmes are healthy for young people and add to the already high social pressures on image. We need to stop glorifying fake beauty and start celebrating natural beauty.

Midnightflower so true! gogglebox is also the only similar show i watch as i love to see a ‘down to earth’ reaction to unrealistic shows

Imnotcheap Me too, my daughter is only 3 but each generation seems to face more pressure to be perfect. I dread to think how bad it will be by the time she is a teen.

rubydooby it's surprisingly entertaining watching others react to the TV but I suppose it's just an extension of what we're all already doing.

I don’t watch those types of reality programs. How they were ever labelled reality beats me, there’s nothing real about them.

I have only ever watched it once, when our son was ill and would be up every hour. I haven't watched it since. I think that to be on these kinds of shows you have to look a certain way, but I think it depends on the person watching it as to whether it is negative or not.

MrsCraig i agree! the only time i’ve half heartedly watched love island is out of curiosity. and it almost made me feel sad that this is what ‘reality’ has come to. but then again as a teen it’s a fun show to keep up with with makeup tips etc

rubydooby it was on all the time and it was something I didn't have to concentrate on. It was easy entertainment when things were bleak. I haven't watched it since.

The term social media influencer I find sinister, someone whose job it is to indoctrinate young impressionable people with the influencer's own socio-political ideology. A shepherd and his sheeple springs to mind.

rubydooby Love Island is a negative reality show. It only shows beautiful people with perfect body sizes, teeth, attitude, I could go on. I have only watched 10 minutes of it and that is enough.

Love island or "lets have a free holiday "? How many of the couples are married with kids now ?

How many of the contestants are size 20 in clothes and how many of the contestants work in a warehouse in Carlisle ?

When Love Island started I had 2 new years resolutions and they were never watch Love Island or watch anything on ITV BE . I'm so pleased to announce I have kept my new years resolutions for the years both have existed .

I also know when Love Island is being advertised I use it as a reminder and head to B&Q to buy the most hideous paint and come home ,paint a brick wall outside and an hour before Love Island starts I then watch the paint dry and I know its an hour I feel totally fulfilled with my life and my new years resolution is still intact.
