Don't believe that old chestnut ! Anyone who has been buying from supermarkets over the last year knows that prices have crept up steadily in excess of inflation . Now they have engineered a bit more of a margin for themselves they can trumpet to the gullible masses that they are reducing "some" items to "help" customers with the cost of living 🙄.

I am confident that most savvy folks have by now worked out where and how to reduce their weekly grocery bill and will not be fooled by stunts such as this .

Golfforall I know I was saying the same I always done my shopping in morrisons as I think they have good quality food but the prices are ridiculous items went up £1 even more on others they have probably lost a lot of customers due to their high prices its just greed

kate1310 I must admit I still shop there , really due to laziness 🤔 although I know it is by no means the cheapest in my town .

a) I know where everything is in the store (saves searching for stuff )

b) no £ coin required for the trolley .

c) large free car park .

d) Petrol station on site , used to be always the cheapest in town (although the independents have been cheaper for the last 6 months or so ).

Still if push came to shove finance wise I know i could cut 10% -20% from my grocery bill by shopping at Aldi or Lidl which are within a mile .

We used to choose the "mainstream " supermarkets for a choice of brands , however I think nowadays we tend towards own brands /value ranges so effectively limiting ourselves to the Aldi/Lidl model ( but at a dearer price level ) .

Morrisons have lost a huge chunk of market share recently so are a bit desperate to win back shoppers, of course they wouldn't tell you that, they would rebrand it as helping people but what they really want is to claw back marketshare.

Remember to check prices, because the same prices, or greater savings, could be found elsewhere.

For example, Asda's 800g loaf of white bread is 39p which works out at 49p per kg - whereas Morrisons' 720g loaf costs the same, but works out at 54p per kg.

Always check your sizes

blacklabrador I agree. I shop at Morrisons purely because out of all the supermarkets they are the one that I've had the least bad experiences with for online deliveries. But it really is worth shopping around if you can.

Tescos stores cut prices on going out of date food from 7pm every week day Monday to Friday get some real bargains we always pick up bits and put them in the freezer last week we spent £47 and on our bill we made£72 savings so we got £119 worth of shopping as tescos say every bit helps. Feeds a family of 5. 2 adults and 3 children thanks to the yellow reduced labels

jdible If this was my Tesco store it would be reduced to £4.50. It has a huge footfall and always extremely busy and they just don't discount very much. A few nearby Tesco's in smaller towns have had some very good reductions though at times but don't see much in the main Yeovil store. I realise timing is important but if you go back at lets say 7pm when they may do extra reductions often the reductions left are just a few items sometimes empty shelves.

We haven't shopped in Morrisons in nearly 2 years. We moved and the nearest one is an hour away. We used to love the Morrisons cafe in our local one, the food was brilliant and really cheap too.

I often do online shopping with Morrisons especially when there’s a £15 discount code to apply. Last week and this week I'm using a code.

Pjran I didn't even know you get discount codes for morrisons I have never done an online shop before will be checking this out thank you 🤩 are the dates ok when you order online thats what puts me off incase its not I can remember I did an Iceland online shop and dates were terrible the bananas were absolutely black and so soft can't imagine why someone would put them in someone's shopping so stopped doing online with them

kate1310 dates are usually good but sometimes I reject their substitutions. Last week they didn’t have something on offer and substituted it with a product double the price. One great thing is if you add an item to your basket it stays at that price.

I do shop in different supermarkets as I am always chasing around for alcohol (for my daughters pub, not for me!). But I do find Morrisons are probably one of the cheapest on items I purchase in there. I never do a full shop just pick up the bargains.

I was in Lidl tonight and no milk apart from expensive organic. Their tins of soup have jumped from 49p last week to 59p, so a 20% increase. Also other stuff have risen once again. And what with them changing the £10 money off voucher for £200 to 10% of your next shop once you reach £250, I'm thinking of shopping elsewhere for my main weekly shop.

I only go to Morrisons occasionally because they abolish their loyalty card points last year. Without the points for spending money for exactly the same items and prices as Asda and Tesco (I have a loyalty card with them too) it is pointless shopping there.

We used to shop in Morrisons all the time prices were good and a great selection of offers, not anymore thou they are the most expensive of any of the supermarkets and in my local store are even profiteering on fuel and holding the prices up despite others dropping the price, last week they were holding their Diesel at £1.74.p whilst Sainsburys less than 5 mins away was down to £167.9p . the most baffling thing thou is why they were still busy on their forecourt .

Mango4 Morrisons were bought by a US company and it was a leveraged buyout so it was bought on loans which Morrisons itself have to pay back. So they have had to increase margins on products to pay this debt, these extra margins have caused higher prices which has meant lost customers so Morrisons are in a very difficult position with a huge pile of debt and a shrinking market share. I don't think its profiteering as such because really this leveraged buyout has made Morrisons a very vulnerable company now to going out of business. I really don't understand why banks pay for such purchases as surely very high risk and the banks in this deal have lost 100s of millions so far and are trying to off-load junk bonds of this debt.

I think morrisons shot themselves in the foot when they completely changed their points system. At least at Tesco your points give you money off coupons as an extra to the amount of points you build up to get a voucher to spend on what you actually want.

I hope all supermarkets follow suit and lower their prices too . I was happy to see Asda giving away the left over vegetables (potatoes, broccoli, parsnips, carrots sprouts etc) after Christmas, only to see the price of sprouts have now gone up
