Is the Pension Rise Too High?

Ask a Question

Are we raising pensions by too much?

They are set to go up 8.5% which is more than double the rate of inflation.

Well haven't these people paid into the pension so why shouldn't they get it?

Leannexxx Well said L , plus the UK has one of the lowest pensions in Europe , there is a lot of catching up to do

And people should not forget, what the old age pensioners manage to negotiate now will only improve the payments for the future pensioners

They are all ready talking about removing the triple lock again , the only reason they haven't is because the elections are so close 🙄

telmel it will get to a point where no one will care about the pensioners because they have done their work now so they don't matter

Not only is our pension very low, it is far lower than the government say 'is enough to live on' so no the increase isn't too much at all, it's not enough!

Not only that, but the age at which you can claim your pension keeps rising, something that younger people should be very worried about, but they seem very unconcerned and are probably sleep walking into a future where there isn't actually a state pension at all. I can't understand their lethargy as we all get old....

Give it to people who need it and not across the board. The only drawback is the cost of administration

Uk pensioners receive such a low amount compared to the Netherlands. Maybe that’s why we had BREXIT.

Pjran Netherlands is a pretty rich country although with global warming and rising sea levels I can't see that continuing. They will be spending huge amounts, 100s of billions to protect their coastline. The point is there is no point comparing a bankrupt country like the UK with a rich country like the Netherlands or Norway or Germany etc. We are comparable I guess to France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal and maybe they pay higher pensions but that still doesn't mean we should do the same when it just leads to more borrowing and debt.

They should get more money, they had probably worked their socks off all their life's, they don't deserve to struggle
