Prepping/stocking up the Pantry
Money Saving
I was wondering if anyone has started putting things aside due to rising costs of food. We have some cupboards in the living room which I call my pantry lol and we're just adding a bit in each time we go shopping
dominamckenzie9 pasta, canned food, vegetables, meat, fish, orange / apple juice, etc.
Ironically I forgot to add bottled water, but I guess I'll be okay with filtered water from the tap.
PhilipMarc thank you. I need to get some water as well. I've just got some sugar and pasta sauces in. We'll be getting more food soon. I'm making use of coupons we have at the moment
dominamckenzie9 Spaghetti and rice are great to have, too.
Speaking of rice, I hope this isn't widespread, but plastic rice is a thing and who knows if I've eaten it or others have. We just assume it's just rice.
That's shockingly horrible.
PhilipMarc omg I didn't know that. That's terrible! We'll have to learn how to differentiate between real and plastic now.
Don't forget to put aside non food items too like bin bags, dog poo bags, cleaning products etc
Understand the value of everything . Don't be swayed by offers , vouchers etc . Once you really understand the value of stuff it is easy to spot deals , then is the time to stock up . Could be pasta one week , soup another week etc , long life milk is a good one .
I often despair at some of the "deals" that our members "like" on here . A huge percentage discount or coupon off a vastly inflated "Pie in the Sky " original selling price is NOT a deal .
Learn the real value of stuff and you will find it much easier to buy at the right time and not waste your hard earned . Trust me it isn't that difficult to do .
Supermarkets are similar . buy the "loss leaders" , know the price per kg of frozen chips or sausages or cans of beans for example . If you can't do the mental arithmetic take a cheap calculator .
Golfforall good advice my partner normally does the maths for us. He won't drink long life milk which I find really annoying lol
dominamckenzie9 Couldn't drink it myself , as such . But it's ok for putting in coffee if you run out or your normal milk goes off . and it lasts about 6 month (until you open it )
Golfforall I can't drink milk but don't mind it for cereal. I'll be getting some anyway
Golfforall Thanks for your comment but I think you should open up a topic about the outrageous cost of a round of 18
If I see anything on offer, I may get a couple of extra items, but not really prepping, but have changed my shopping habits to cheaper brands.
beccatavender we have switched to cheaper brands too and compare the cheapest brands between shops
