Does Renting Toys Make More Sense than Buying Them?

Other

There's a thing on gmb about renting toys for Xmas. The idea is you use a toy subscription service. You can buy it from the service if you want to keep it or send it back after a few weeks

Sounds like a good idea to be honest, you can tell if your kid likes a toy or dislikes it within a day of them opening the presents, we purchased our middle daughter all the miraculous lady dolls, she never played with them, been in a box all year

martinlufc5637 wrap 'em up, store in loft and you'll probably make a fortune in years to come. I wish I had kept my boys' star wars models/toys from 40 years ago. (So do they!)

I suppose it depends on price of subscription and if toys are worth it. My daughter finds that at Christmas and her birthday in July my granddaughter gets that much that she puts some of it away and mth or 2 later when my granddaughter is “fed up” playing with same toys she switches them around and my granddaughter has great fun playing with these toys. If my daughter sets stuff away from my granddaughter and she doesn’t ask to play with it in next 6/9 mths she donates them to local schools etc

My oldest granddaughter was a big care bear fan. She always carried 1 with her at all times. Her favourite was “fun shine”. Think that was name, he was a yellow carebear. I must ask her when I see her at wk end

I've seen this idea before and it is a good idea, but my concern would be what would happen if the kids damaged one of them, since my youngest is particularly heavy-handed 😂

Karen331 yes there is that. I guess there's a policy on that and you pay to keep it. To be fair if you own a company like this you expect things to get broken

This reminds me of a service where you can rent a PS4/Xbox/MacBook let me see if I can find it...

It might seem like a good idea, but if you miss a payment or just want to use it for years then just buy it (and pay in parts). Moreover, I also don't like the Buy Now Pay Later payment plan because if I forget, then I'll be penalized. I'm sure it has happened to people who signed up for it.

I wouldn't because of the potential that you could get a faulty toy if they haven't all been checked properly when returned.
