Stop Asking People What They Want for Christmas!

Ask a Question

Should we stop asking people what they want for Christmas?

Is it better if we really think about what the person would like and surprise them with something thoughtful?

Imnotcheap I agree. One year at work for secret Santa I got a bottle of wine and spices to make mulled wine. Nice pressie but I was pretty sure everyone knew I didn't drink. The year I was diagnosed with D2 my supposed best friend got me a box of chocolates and a huge tub of Cadbury drinking chocolate!

Lynibis they sound like nice presents for other people but definitely not you. Some people never listen sadly

Lynibis I have been type 2 diabetic for a good few years. I know it's difficult to get your head around, but you can still have sweet things in moderation please don't feel you can't have anything sweet at all

sallylester1 I appreciate your comment but was diagnosed well over a decade ago. Doc put me on a day course and I think I know as much about D2 as most non medical folk. Your comment seems at odds with the other one I just replied to but thanks for your advice.

Lynibis sorry I was under the impression you had just been diagnosed this year.

sallylester1 no problem, it is very easy for misunderstandings to occur in online comments. Have a great Christmas🎄

i get that its nice to get what you want but i think it has gone to the extreme. Even Christmas secret santa has turned into giving a list of what you want for the person to chose off.

I think it’s better to ask someone what they want because then at least you’re sure they will like the gift

I'd rather be asked. I'm general I.e. I'll say a number of things to keep it a surprise.

Jerseydrew That's a good idea! People have asked me what I want before and when I've said Gin they have asked for a list of which ones I like, and that way I still get the surprise.

Yes. we can look at for their social media profiles and we can start selecting accordingly

I think this is a better way as you say shows some thought has gone into it

I always ask. I'd rather spend my money on something they'd like/enjoy then waste it on some tat they don't like. If I'm asked I just send them my Amazon wishlist.

I would rather someone asked me what I wanted than I ended up with something I wouldn't use and the person has wasted their money. By the same logic I want to get them something they will like/use and not waste my money.
