Taking a Shine to Your Boots
In the News
Another iconic name is disappearing from the shelves, this time Kiwi shoe polish
I remember when i was younger using the black polish to buffer up my school shoes before leaving the house , i always ended up getting it everywhere but on the shoes
Even when a teen i would use it as shoes were still in fashion to go to clubs etc
Sometimes i would not bother using it and give the shoes a quick spray of furniture polish instead, it seemed to do the job with less mess
I don't know if the armed forces use this or something similar , i know they do in some films, you normally hear, 'Get those boots shiny lads, i want to be able to see my face in them ' or words to that effect , but i can never imagine it going out of fashion with them, unless they start using combat trainers
My dad was an ex drill sergeant .He used to line me and my brother up with a broom on the shoulder and march us up and down the garden. Great fun as a kid. No real wonder I'm a bit of a Tomboy. He also taught us to polish and buff our shoes with spit and shine as well as polish. I just stick a wet wipe or a soapy clothe on them now. Yer gets lazy with age sometimes.
MelissaLee1 Most people will slip into a pair of trainers now M, only professionals elderly and the forces predominantly tend to wear shoes that need polishing nowadays
And as mentioned if i do have a pair of dress shoes that need a polish i just give a squirt of furniture polish or a quick wipe like yourself
telmel I live in trainers and worse yet ,no shoes at all in the warmer weather! Having problems with my Plantars now so need to invest in some proper shoes. I so love walking as well but it does get harder with age. Mobility is everything
MelissaLee1 It's trainers for me the majority of the time too M, they are more comfortable , and dont need polishing
telmel I quite like sandals cos my feet get hot.I think I was a gypsy in a previous incarnation lol
MelissaLee1 Not Gypsy Rose Lee by any chance M ? , that reminds me to make that cuppa
Er well. Thereby hangs a tale. Fact is stranger than fiction T.Not THE Rose Lee but one of my husband's nieces was another Gypsy Rose Lee I was told. Irish, always up to devilment and talking to the little people lol. Last of the Baileys for me then bedward.
MelissaLee1 What a coincidence M, amazing, its always worth a chat with the little people , they might slip up and give away the location of that pot of gold
Enjoy the baileys M, not opened it here yet
telmel You need rakes of Poteen and then they keep you up all on night singing rebel songs and hammering away on their harps lol. They never tell you where they keep the gold they are trained by professionals.
When in the WRNS I remember spending hours 'bulling' my shoes, lace ups and ceremonial court shoes. The aroma of tinned polish was heady and we were advised to use old tights and stockings to buff the shoes....for some reason it did the trick and you could see your face in them lol.
MelissaLee1 ha ha, I remember being on parade once and one of the top officers was inspecting us. He stopped in front of me and pointed out a tiniest speck of dried soap sud on the cap tally on my hat.....talk about embarrassment!
Lynibis I vouch that He would have done it anyway even if there was nothing there just to observe your response and see how conformist you were.
