Website Updates: Revamped Reporting + Amazon Price History Graphs
Latest Deals
Hey all
Just wanted to share that we have two new updates on the website (that'll be coming to the app too in the future).
Revamped Reporting
- It's now easier to report a post with a big "Report" button rather than it being hidden in the dropdown menu. Our hope is this encourages members to let us know if there's an issue with a post - if it's expired, has the wrong details, etc.
- We've overhauled the Report "popup" to hopefully be far more straightforward. We previously had an ever increasing list of obscure report reasons. We've now streamlined this and customised it per post "type" (e.g. deals vs vouchers).
This is the first step of active attempts to improve the reporting and moderation system. Next on our hit list is to improve our internal moderation system so that we default to improving/helping with posts rather than moderating them. Watch this space!
Amazon Price History Graphs
Where available, we'll now try to automatically include a Price History graph on Amazon deals. This will hopefully help members quickly see how the current price compares to historic ones. It should also help members identify when a product is brand new and has no history (this is particularly useful for new products that are listed with suspiciously huge RRPs and then heavily discounted).
We always want to be an open deals community that's accepting of as many offers as possible but, with that, comes the risk of deals being shared that perhaps aren't all that great. As such, we want to try and empower members to make the best personal judgment as to the value of a deal and hope this is a step in the right direction. The price history, combined with the likes and comments on LD, should hopefully help people make informed buying decisions.
That's it for this update but there's lots more exciting things in the pipeline!
Thanks as ever for being part of LD
excellent like the look of these. The price graph is especially useful - thanks as always for keeping the site up to date and continually improving.
The price graphs are great, at last there’s a true indication if the item is a bargain rather than comparing with the often inflated recommended price.
I realise the aim is to "spoon feed " members with supposed deals . We also know that Amazon price graphs do not work with marketplace sellers ? Only a member's knowledge of the value of an item will help them .
Perhaps moderators should keep an eye on the stated "original selling price " of Amazon marketplace items which could fool less savvy members ? An item worth perhaps £10 reduced by coupons /vouchers from an original price of £120 to £29.99 (still way overpriced !)
I realise this is an advertising site but as someone who understands the value of items I am daily shocked by the "original selling price" claims made by your own deal hunters ? Perhaps this could be addressed to regain a modicum of credence ?
Golfforall an item with an MSRP of £99.99 down to £9.99 would make me question it.
PhilipMarc Exactly but they are on here every day - Amazon marketplace sellers , always well "liked" but clearly "pie in the sky " original selling prices !
Deals that falsely advertise one price and then it's another (minimum order type) needs to be addressed, too. And it was posted by LD Hunters so they knew they were clearly misleading people.
PhilipMarc Or how about deals for skechers shoes , Levi Jeans etc the price only applying to a single "weird " size . Good "click bait" - you search the deal for your size then realise they are normal (much higher ) price . I often mention this politely in "comments" said comment is removed , wouldn't it be more honest to remove the deceptive deal listing rather than the honest comment ?
Golfforall The Sim card deals are misleading, too.
It's generally for 3 ~ 6 months, yet there's no mention of it on the title. They hate when they get called out for it, but if they mentioned they'd not get such comments.
Even the rival site does state that. Why they feel the need to mislead people.. who knows. Clickbait, for sure.
PhilipMarc Morning
Re: Minimum order quantity - I looked into this a while back and unfortunately it isn't something we can currently programatically access (and therefore automatically include on all deals).
Do you have any examples of LD Hunters sharing minimum order deals without specifying? I'll see if I can organise some extra training to make sure that doesn't keep happening
Regarding the sim only deals - I agree that the titles should ideally clearly state the minimum contract length. If you could link some examples where this is missing I'll have a look into this and see if we need to update some of our internal guides to make sure this is being caught going forwards. Thanks!
Kelsey Hi, yes.
Wouldn't hurt to state it's a minimum order product, and also, the price was falsely misleading, too. Just overall a really bad post.
