Doctors

Ask a Question

With all the nhs issues here how many doctors does Australia really need over there? If there is a mass exodus and we are completely abandoned here is there room for all of them there? Looks like we might be losing our nhs. We will probably have to do the same as Americans with insurance schemes for medical treatment at some point. There’s still no agreements with the strikes.

I hope the problems are sorted. I'm with the Dr's regarding payrise. They deserve it.

Both sides here are at fault. Drs say pay has fallen 35% in real terms so maybe talks should have taken place years ago. 35% in one hit will break the NHS. How about 10% every year for next 4 years? Money should not be the issue when people will surely die!

I've had 2 hospital appointments cancelled in January because of the strikes

martinlufc5637 It’s very damaging and frustrating for the public when waiting for much needed treatment or important operations. I had some sympathy for the doctors at first but they are doing a huge lot of damage to people they should be looking after. They say it’s bad anyway but they are making it far worse for everyone. What if agreements aren’t ever reached? Then what?

How's about everyone pays an extra 1p in tax to cover it?

No chance, people would be up in arms.

People want this and want that, but don't want to pay for it. The government hasn't got a bottomless pit of money.

It's the same with the councils. Everybody wants services to improve, but when their council tax goes up, they get the hump.

TheChimp If you go to the library you can see why the government and local council cannot make ends meet. Read the job adverts of the job descriptions (meaningless) and the SALARIES paid to the successful job applicants. I am talking £50,000 plus for being a pen pusher. Don't even get me started on Head of *** department at £200,000 per year PLUS.

jam45 This might sound like an exaggeration, but it isn't....

FatherofChimp was visiting my uncle today and there were workmen laying tarmac, one around 10ft by 6 and one around 6ft by 4ft.

There was a JCB and 10, yes TEN council vans there with most of the men just sitting there. My uncle said that they were there at 8am and didn't finish until after 2pm with most of the workmen just sitting in their vans.

True story.

There is £150k of debt/liabilities on every single person in the UK or about £350k per household. Politicians need to come clean about the horrific economic situation we are in and come up with policies to turn around this debt. We are a much poorer country today and cannot expect the same level of services. Servicing all this debt means there isn't anywhere near the same amount of money available for the NHS and other services unless we keep borrowing which we are currently doing. We have to break this cycle. Pretty much NHS Dentistry is gone for a huge percentage of the British population.

1/3rd of NHS doctors were born abroad and many are financially linked to other countries where they send money back to. This is hugely damaging to our economy.

Ultimately we need to be economically literate and return to a trading surplus, only then will we have the resources to slowly pay off our debts. We must minimise as much as possible sterling going abroad.

Here in Northern Ireland r drs are paid less than on mainland UK and workers in Tesco’s and McDonald’s are being paid better hourly rate. U have to have total sympathy for junior drs and nurses here who have spent yrs training to be in their profession only to find out that other jobs where u learn totally on job r earning same if not more than u. We also pay to put nurses through uni here (not sure bout rest of Uk) only to find many of them emigrating as soon as they graduate. Think here we should make they stay in NHS for X amount of yrs as they owe it to NHS for helping train them and train them free

chele44 Yes it’s not right they get paid less than ordinary workers but I also agree with you if all their training is paid for they should be obligated to stay in nhs at least for a certain amount of time. They shouldn’t emigrate straight after.

JLouM That fact taxpayers pay for training and then those trained people immediately emigrate just shows the utter stupidity and naivety of politicians that they would allow such a situation. The training should not be free it should be paid off as they work in the NHS so each month they work their training debt is reduced until finally nothing after maybe 10-15 years.

It’s down to the government to make it attractive for Doctor’s to stay in the nhs bht unfortunately they aren’t doing that

Doctors can work in many different capacities so I'm sure Australia are putting them to good use. Luring them from other countries means having to train less themselves or at least gives them a buffer while their own medical students are studying (if they even have enough)... 🙄
