Ok, they were not driving normal cars, these were modelled from a plastic cereal container
But they had an accelerator , a wire the rats grabbed acting like a pedal , and steering
Later they upgraded the vehicles to the equivalent of EVs , all electric, and made everything like tyres and levers indestructible so the rats couldn't destroy them by chewing on them
With further practice they were even able to drive in certain directions and didn't even need GPS
They found the rats that were in a richer environment , eg cages with objects and toys drove quicker and better than those with no stimulants
Maybe the next stage is to make them take a driving test , then they can be issued with a licence
So rather than being caught in rat traps, they are now more likely to be caught in speed traps !
I can see it now, policeman '' Do you know you were exceeding the speed limit Mr Roland ?
'Sorry officer' said Roland ''i was thinking about my the ferris wheel back home in my cage and got carried away ''
