Tesco Workers given a Box of £5 Quality Streets for Their Christmas Bonus
In the News
This was not what the tesco workers were hoping to get for their Christmas bonus
The store had taken £10 million in revenue in December but they decided to give the workers a tin of quality streets as a thank you
I know where i would have told them to stick the chocolates if it was me, and they would have ended up with a purple one
Saying that , it is my favourite
Lets hope they at least got some Tesco points

Not much of a bonus but they were paid. Also have a good staff share save scheme plus staff discount on shopping.
telmel I polished mine off on Christmas eve/day.Finished the Baileys day before yesterday.I have Tia Maria but never tried it!
telmel Might crack it open in the next few days .Mix it with something else perhaps?
MelissaLee1 Never mixed it myself M, you might have to experiment , i saw some suggestions on the internet, mix with baileys, milk, coke, lemonade and even vodka
telmel I love Iced Coffee and in Ireland they drink Brown Cows which is with milk. Keep you posted on that.
Ungrateful ******* I and I'm sure many others never received any form of Christmas bonus from our employers. Most of us were content with employment and a wage.
Probably Tesco's own fault giving them a bonus anywhere near Christmas in the past.
(no mention by the OP of the 20% staff discount they got in the run-up to Christmas , I notice).
To add to previous - I've been through the supplied information a few times and the only place I can see any mention of the value of the box of Quality Street is in the title of this topic... is my eyesight failing me? (or perhaps the OP seeing things too).
Nevertheless if actually £5... that's £5 more than most of us got.
davidstockport Although actually cost price for Tesco would be around the £2 mark.
I agree that it's better than nothing, but only just.
People on benefits and pensions got Christmas bonuses of £10 . Work bonuses are not obligatory of course but it's just nice to show gratitude wherever and whenever possible aka Regular Posties,Dustmen,Paperboys etc.
MelissaLee1 The £10 bonus paid to those on certain benefits is exempt from tax, but any bonus paid in cash by an employer is regarded as part of the salary and tax is payable by the employee. So it's better for employees to be rewarded with gifts which cost less than £50. Anything easily converted to cash, (vouchers etc.) is regarded as cash.
Any money given to paperboys, postmen and dustmen etc. is not strictly a "bonus" (in the definition used here) they're "gratuities". In some cases such gratuities might be taxable (payable by the recipient). That's up to HMRC to decide.
davidstockport Nothing like fine tuning eh Sir? I'm always a notch off key .I started a new job once and got landed with the Christmas Day and New Year and nearly all the extras got swallowed up with the all as indeed did I miss a Christmas day spent with my loved ones. Won't be doing that again in a hurry. It's better to be a volunteer sometimes. The companionship, the din dins and the sing song come in hand lol.
Tesco staff say they’ve missed out on a Christmas bonus for a second year running, with some receiving only a box of Quality Street for their efforts.
In 2020 the supermarket giant paid a 10% Christmas bonus, and has given out shopping vouchers in previous years.
But this time round the only thing given to staff was a plastic tub of chocolates worth about £5.
One worker said it was the second year running that he’d received only a box of Quality Streets from the manager of his store, which took in £10million last month.

As tescos would say every little helps lol well done tescos at least the staff got a Christmas bonus and a free bag for life to take them home
I think a box of sweets is better than nothing, there's a lot of people that do get just that...nothing, and their still being paid so nice bonus.
HEDGEHOGS That is my point - why should any worker expect more than a fair day's pay for a fair day's work? In the past I've had jobs where although entitled to take Christmas day off - I couldn't expect to be paid for doing so.
There are far too many these days who want something for nothing. They need to try self employment - they'd soon change their opinions.
I can only speak from my mum's experiences of working for Tesco but I would not recommend them. Hours are cut so staff can't afford to live. Management is poor, unorganised and lazy at the site she works. I doubt she'll care about bonuses she'd just like to earn enough to live.
Not suprised really, where I live at least the Tesco staff seem so overworked by their managers… doesn’t seem like the company cares much!
Not shocked. Thanks for all the extra hard work over Christmas while Tesco was rammed here’s a box of chocolates . I bet some higher up people would have or will be getting a decent bonus.
Maybe they could start that with executive bonus and instead of a bumper pay packet of £4.74 million the ceo got in may they could just give him a box of chocolates instead
ah no way! i mean a gift is a lovely gesture but a huge company like that making insane profits could have shown their staff a little more appreciation surely.
Tesco are very generous with discounts that they provide for staff and pay younger people more than a lot of employers. My daughter loves working for them and received a bonus earlier in the year. Lots of employers out there paying minimum wage without the criticism.
I would happily had the tub of quality street’s. I didn’t get Christmas bonus like a lot of others. If they’re publicly moaning they’re stupid next year they won’t even get that. Tesco must employ a lot of people so it’ll add up, though I know they make a lot of profit. It’s still the principle of people moaning about something they received free.
