“This is How the Apocalypse Starts”- Fans Upset As KFC Runs Out of Chicken
- Only 296 of the 870 stores currently open
- No indication of when they will reopen
- Closed due to issues with delivery contract
- Fans say “this is how the apocalypse starts”
KFC is still struggling with the unexpected closure of 600 stores this week.
Last week, the chicken chain switched contracts to DHL, which has blamed operational issues for the supply disruption.
KFC has given no indication of when operations will be back to normal, and has told diners to check its’ website to find out updates and to see where the nearest open restaurant is.
A spokesperson said, “We’re updating the website as regularly as we can, and our teams are working around the cluck to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible.”
The company has released an updated list of the 296 stores that have remained open, though these are offering a limited menu or are open for shorter hours than normal.
This means that almost two thirds of KFC stores will be shut until further notice, costing the chain an estimated £1 million a day for the fault.
If you fancy fast food but your nearest KFC is closed, McDonald’s has just released two new Big Macs for you to try out.
DHL, the company now in charge of deliveries for KFC, said, “Due to operational issues, a number of deliveries in recent days have been incomplete or delayed.
“We are working with KFC and our partners to rectify the situation as a priority and apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Chicken lovers have expressed their annoyance over the closures on social media.
Ant on Twitter said, “Need to find out when my KFC is going to re-open, at this rate I’ll have to travel 49 miles just for chicken.”
Another user, Joanthan, said, “So KFC has run out of chicken- this is how the apocalypse starts.”
Chicken fans will be in luck this summer though, as the first ever chicken nugget festival will be taking place in the UK.
